Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse (RN) to join our team, serving K-12 students within the Spokane Public Schools district. The School Nurse will play a crucial role in providing direct nursing care, promoting health education, managing health screenings, and developing individualized healthcare plans for students. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care, including first aid, medication administration, and management of chronic conditions, to K-12 students.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans (ECPs) for students with special health needs.
  • Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) and make appropriate referrals.
  • Assess student health needs, identify health problems, and provide health counseling and education to students, families, and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care and support for students.
  • Respond to health emergencies and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Participate in district health programs and initiatives, including immunization tracking and communicable disease control.
  • Serve as a resource for health-related matters for students, families, and school personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment by identifying and addressing potential health hazards.

Required Skills

  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of student health information.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and basic computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Public Health.
  • National Certification as a School Nurse (NCSN).
  • Experience working in a K-12 school setting.
  • Knowledge of Washington State school health laws and regulations.
  • Bilingual abilities.
