Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Formulation Chemist to join our R&D team in Austin, Texas. This role will involve leading a small team focused on the development of cutting-edge chemical formulations for various product lines, including advanced materials and specialty chemicals. The successful candidate will drive projects from concept to commercialization, demonstrating strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to quality and safety. This position offers a performance bonus structure tied to project success and innovation milestones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of chemists and technicians in formulation development and characterization.
  • Design, execute, and interpret experiments for the development of new formulations, ensuring robust performance and stability.
  • Optimize existing formulations for improved performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
  • Oversee the scale-up of formulations from lab to pilot plant to manufacturing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with process engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and regulatory teams.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of raw materials and finished products using various analytical techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, quality standards, and intellectual property guidelines.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and patent disclosures as needed.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and competitive landscape in chemical formulation.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical formulation development within an industrial setting.
  • Proven experience in leading or mentoring a technical team.
  • Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, surface chemistry, and colloid science.
  • Proficiency in various analytical techniques (e.g., rheology, spectroscopy, chromatography).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for chemical products (e.g., REACH, GHS).
  • Experience in advanced material formulations, adhesives, coatings, or personal care products.
  • Track record of successful product commercialization.
