Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and focused Trailer Loader – Loading Bay Operative to join our dynamic distribution centre team in Colchester. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of trailers, ensuring that goods are correctly sorted, secured, and dispatched or received. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and a strong work ethic to maintain the smooth flow of operations within our busy loading bay. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load and unload goods from trailers using appropriate equipment.
- Verify product quantities and ensure accuracy against dispatch or receiving documentation.
- Secure goods within trailers to prevent damage during transit.
- Operate manual and powered material handling equipment (e.g., pallet trucks, pump trucks) safely and competently.
- Conduct pre-use checks on equipment and report any defects.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe loading bay area.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and operational procedures and regulations.
- Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Assist with other general warehouse duties as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a warehouse or loading bay environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding role.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations in a logistics setting.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating MHE (Material Handling Equipment) such as counterbalance or reach trucks (certification preferred but not essential, training can be provided).
- Familiarity with inventory management systems or processes.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry or system updates.
