Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Ice Sculpting Assistant to join our events team. This unique role supports our lead ice sculptor in creating stunning ice displays for various events held at our downtown Amarillo location. The ideal candidate will thrive in a cold environment, possess a strong work ethic, and have an eye for detail. This position involves significant manual labor, including lifting heavy blocks of ice, operating tools under supervision, and ensuring the safe handling and display of ice sculptures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the lead ice sculptor in the preparation and carving of ice blocks for event displays.
- Safely transport heavy blocks of ice using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored.
- Prepare molds, stands, and other necessary equipment for sculpture creation and display.
- Assist with the setup, placement, and dismantling of ice sculptures at event venues.
- Operate various hand and power tools safely under direct supervision.
- Perform routine maintenance on sculpting tools and equipment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, especially when working in cold environments and with heavy materials.
- Support other event setup and breakdown tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 75 lbs) repeatedly.
- Comfortable working in a consistently cold environment for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Basic understanding of power tool safety.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role, such as construction, warehousing, or event setup.
- Experience with basic carpentry or artistic endeavors involving sculpture or carving.
- Valid driver's license.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
