Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and compassionate individual to join our team as a Hospital Reception & Porter. This pivotal combined role involves being the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing essential administrative support, and ensuring the smooth movement of patients and equipment within the hospital premises. You will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming and efficient environment, directly impacting the patient experience through your front desk presence and physical assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients, visitors, and staff with a professional and friendly demeanor.
  • Manage the main reception desk, including answering phone calls, redirecting enquiries, and taking messages.
  • Register and direct patients and visitors to their correct departments or wards, providing clear instructions and assistance.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries efficiently.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the reception and waiting areas.
  • Transport patients safely between wards, departments, and appointment areas using wheelchairs or trolleys as required.
  • Assist with the movement of equipment, medical records, and supplies within the hospital.
  • Provide compassionate support and assistance to patients with limited mobility or special needs.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical, nursing, and administrative staff to ensure seamless operations.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a patient-first approach.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic IT proficiency, including experience with office software.
  • Ability to lift and move patients/equipment safely (training provided).
  • Empathy, patience, and a compassionate attitude.
  • Reliability and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital setting.
  • Experience in a customer-facing reception or front desk role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • First Aid certification.
  • A clean UK driving license (for potential campus transfers, though not primary).
