Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse with a strong technical focus to join our dynamic interventional cardiology team. This role is crucial in supporting diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, requiring proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring, rhythm interpretation, and sterile technique. The ideal candidate will be adept at assisting physicians during complex procedures, managing patient care pre, intra, and post-procedure, and ensuring the Cath Lab operates efficiently and safely. This position includes an on-call requirement to provide critical support for emergency cases, demanding flexibility and a commitment to patient needs around the clock.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, including assessment, IV access, and patient education.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, hemodynamics, and cardiac rhythms throughout procedures, recognizing and responding to changes.
- Assist cardiologists and interventional radiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures, including preparing and handling sterile equipment and supplies.
- Operate and troubleshoot Cath Lab equipment, including hemodynamic monitoring systems, IVUS, FFR, and other specialized devices.
- Administer medications safely and accurately as prescribed, including conscious sedation.
- Document all aspects of patient care, procedure details, and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide post-procedure care, monitoring for complications, sheath removal (if credentialed), and patient recovery.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, ensuring timely response and readiness for emergency cardiac interventions.
- Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection control protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Required Skills
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab, Critical Care (ICU), or Emergency Department setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and hemodynamic monitoring
- Strong technical skills with Cath Lab equipment and sterile technique
- Ability to respond effectively in high-stress, emergency situations
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Certified Cardiovascular Nurse (CVN) or other relevant specialty certification (e.g., CCRN)
- Experience with scrubbing and circulating duties in the Cath Lab
- Previous experience in a large healthcare system
