Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Stagehand / Lighting Tech Trainee to join our dynamic production team. This is an unparalleled opportunity for individuals passionate about the technical aspects of live theatre, with little to no prior experience. You will receive hands-on training and mentorship from experienced professionals, learning the foundational skills required to excel in stage management and lighting operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced stagehands and lighting technicians with the setup, operation, and strike of theatrical productions.
  • Learn to safely handle and operate various stage equipment, including rigging, scenery, and props.
  • Gain practical experience in setting up, focusing, and maintaining theatrical lighting fixtures.
  • Support the lighting team in programming and operating lighting consoles during rehearsals and performances.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained, stored correctly, and in good working order.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and best practices in a theatre environment.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to a collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Undertake any other duties as required to support the smooth running of productions.

Required Skills

  • A strong passion for live theatre and the entertainment industry.
  • Eagerness to learn and a positive, 'can-do' attitude.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to lift and move equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions diligently.
  • Reliability and punctuality, especially for show calls and rehearsals.
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures or a willingness to learn quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some experience in a theatre, school play, or event production setting (even voluntary or amateur).
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and their safe use.
  • An interest in electronics or technical systems.
  • A desire for a long-term career in technical theatre.
