Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Refinery Safety Coordinator with a strong WHS (Workplace Health and Safety) focus to join our team. Based in our Tempe, AZ office, this role will be instrumental in supporting our refinery operations by developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs. While based in Tempe, this role will require regular collaboration and support for our various refinery locations across the country, potentially involving travel. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company safety regulations, conduct comprehensive risk assessments, and promote a proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) programs tailored for refinery environments.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of refinery operations, identifying potential hazards and ensuring corrective actions are promptly addressed.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending preventative measures.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, EPA guidelines, and other relevant federal, state, and local safety standards.
- Provide expert guidance and support to refinery management and employees on safety best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs, including hazard communication, emergency response, and confined space entry.
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation.
- Participate in safety committees and initiatives to foster a culture of continuous improvement in WHS performance.
- Evaluate new equipment, processes, and procedures for potential safety impacts.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in WHS, with at least 3 years specifically in a refinery or heavy industrial environment.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly those pertaining to process safety management (PSM) and general industry safety.
- Proven experience in conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
- Strong understanding of hazard identification, evaluation, and control principles.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various refinery locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
- Experience with refinery-specific safety software and management systems.
- Knowledge of industry best practices (e.g., API standards).
