Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Maintenance Engineer to join our team in Fairbanks, Alaska. This critical role involves overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational efficiency of our diverse ground fleet, including various vehicles and ground support equipment vital to our cold-chain and express logistics operations. The ideal candidate will leverage their engineering expertise to implement preventative maintenance programs, diagnose complex mechanical issues, manage spare parts inventory, and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. You will be instrumental in optimizing fleet performance, minimizing downtime, and contributing to the overall success of our operations in a challenging yet rewarding environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage preventative maintenance schedules and programs for a diverse fleet of vehicles and ground support equipment.
  • Conduct detailed diagnostics and troubleshooting of complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, identifying root causes of failures.
  • Oversee and perform hands-on repairs, inspections, and modifications to ensure optimal fleet performance and longevity.
  • Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring availability while optimizing costs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, federal, and company safety regulations, including DOT and OSHA standards.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians and maintenance staff on best practices, safety procedures, and new technologies.
  • Analyze fleet data to identify trends, predict potential issues, and recommend improvements to maintenance processes.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to schedule maintenance, minimize disruptions, and enhance fleet availability.
  • Prepare detailed reports on fleet performance, maintenance costs, and compliance status.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance, heavy equipment repair, or automotive engineering.
  • Proven expertise in diagnostic tools and software for various vehicle systems (e.g., diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems).
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with DOT, OSHA, and other relevant transportation and safety regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging climate and environment like Fairbanks, Alaska.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ASE Master Technician, Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional – CMRP).
  • Experience with cold-weather vehicle operations and maintenance.
  • Previous experience in a logistics, transportation, or aviation ground support environment.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Fluency in additional languages.
