Job Description
Are you a responsible 13-year-old eager to make a positive impact in your community and earn some weekly pocket money? Meals on Wheels Silicon Valley is looking for enthusiastic and reliable Teen Errand Runners to assist local seniors with various everyday tasks. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop valuable life skills, connect with your community, and help those who need it most. No prior experience is required – just a willingness to help and a friendly attitude!
Key Responsibilities
- Perform light grocery shopping and other retail errands for seniors.
- Assist with basic household chores such as taking out trash or light gardening.
- Pick up prescriptions from local pharmacies.
- Deliver small packages or mail within the neighborhood.
- Provide friendly companionship and engage in light conversation with seniors.
- Maintain a respectful and helpful demeanor at all times.
- Report any concerns or issues regarding a senior's well-being to a supervisor.
- Adhere to scheduled errand times and communicate any delays promptly.
Required Skills
- Must be 13 years old at the time of application.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathetic and patient demeanor with seniors.
- Ability to follow instructions carefully.
- Capable of light lifting (e.g., grocery bags) and walking/biking short distances.
- Access to reliable transportation (e.g., bicycle, scooter, or ability to walk).
- Proof of parental/guardian consent and ability to obtain a work permit if required by California law.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lives within walking or biking distance of assigned senior homes in Sunnyvale.
- Previous experience helping family members or neighbors with errands.
- A positive attitude and eagerness to learn and help.
