Job Description

Barchester Healthcare is seeking an enthusiastic Activities Coordinator to join our dedicated team in Dewsbury. In this full-time role, you will be instrumental in planning, organizing, and delivering a diverse range of engaging activities and events for our residents. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about enriching the lives of older adults, with full training provided. You will help foster a vibrant community spirit, encouraging residents to participate in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities tailored to their interests and abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a varied program of daily activities, events, and outings that cater to the physical, social, mental, and spiritual needs of residents.
  • Actively encourage and support residents to participate in individual and group activities, ensuring a person-centred approach.
  • Assess residents' needs and preferences to tailor activities accordingly, maintaining up-to-date records of participation and progress.
  • Work collaboratively with the care team, residents, and their families to understand individual interests and suggestions for new activities.
  • Organise and decorate for special events, celebrations, and themed days within the care home.
  • Manage and maintain activity equipment and resources, ensuring they are safe and readily available.
  • Assist with external excursions and community engagement initiatives.
  • Provide one-on-one companionship and support to residents who prefer individual interaction.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and supportive environment, adhering to all health and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • A genuine passion for working with older adults and a commitment to enhancing their quality of life.
  • Creativity and imagination to develop engaging and diverse activity programs.
  • Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Empathy, patience, and sensitivity towards the needs of residents.
  • Basic IT literacy for record-keeping and communication.
  • Willingness to learn and undergo professional development and training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (even voluntary) in a care setting or working with older adults.
  • A qualification in a relevant field such as recreation, social care, or arts.
  • First Aid certification.
