Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our dynamic hospital-based team. This is a crucial role focused on providing advanced clinical care to acutely ill patients in a fast-paced, complex environment during night shifts. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing patient care, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and quality outcomes. A night shift differential will be applied.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments, diagnose acute and chronic conditions, and develop treatment plans for hospital inpatients.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory and imaging studies.
  • Prescribe medications and other therapeutic interventions as appropriate, following established protocols and state regulations.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of practice, such as central line insertion, intubation, and lumbar puncture, if credentialed.
  • Provide expert consultation to nursing staff and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, residents, and ancillary services.
  • Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and manage transitions of care.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain and enhance clinical expertise.
  • Offer compassionate care and education to patients and their families.

Required Skills

  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Current California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license with Acute Care NP certification
  • Current Furnishing Number and DEA registration
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Acute Care NP or 5 years as an RN in an acute care setting (e.g., ICU, ED, critical care)
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN/DNP) from an accredited program
  • Experience working night shifts in an acute care hospital setting
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish) is a plus
  • Prior experience with Kaiser Permanente systems and protocols
