Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Adhesives Chemist with a strong focus on product development to join our R&D team in Zephyrhills, FL. This role is crucial for designing, developing, and optimizing high-performance adhesive solutions for various industrial applications. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of polymer chemistry, material science, and adhesive formulation, coupled with a passion for bringing innovative products from concept to commercialization. You will work within a dynamic team, contributing to projects that enhance product performance, improve manufacturing processes, and meet evolving customer needs. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, synthesis, and formulation of new adhesive products based on market needs and customer specifications.
- Conduct extensive laboratory research, including material characterization, performance testing, and application validation of adhesive prototypes.
- Optimize existing adhesive formulations to improve performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, manufacturing, and technical service teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Document research findings, prepare technical reports, and present project updates to internal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements in all development activities.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, raw materials, and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation.
- Troubleshoot and solve complex technical challenges related to adhesive performance and application.
Required Skills
- Strong background in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, or material science.
- Proven experience in adhesive formulation and product development.
- Expertise in various adhesive technologies (e.g., epoxies, urethanes, acrylics, hot melts, solvent-based).
- Proficiency in laboratory analytical techniques and material characterization (e.g., rheology, DSC, FTIR, DMA, GPC).
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and experimental design skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
- Project management experience, including planning, execution, and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with specific adhesive applications (e.g., automotive, electronics, construction, packaging).
- Knowledge of lean laboratory principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with patent literature and intellectual property processes.
- Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., JMP, Minitab).
