Job Description
Join XPO Logistics as an Apprentice Truck Driver – 1st Year Trainee for local work in Tampa, Florida. This entry-level position is designed for individuals eager to start a career in trucking, providing comprehensive training and support to obtain a Class A CDL. You will work closely with experienced drivers and trainers, learning the ropes of local freight transportation, safety regulations, and operational procedures. This role is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience, earn while you learn, and build a foundational career with a global leader in logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all required training programs to obtain a Class A CDL.
- Learn and adhere to all federal, state, and company safety regulations and procedures.
- Assist experienced drivers with pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Learn proper cargo securement techniques and weight distribution.
- Operate company vehicles safely under direct supervision during training exercises.
- Understand and follow local delivery routes and schedules.
- Maintain accurate logs and records as required by DOT and company policy.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and team members.
- Perform general duties as assigned to support transportation operations.
Required Skills
- Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all regulations.
- Excellent work ethic and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Prior experience operating heavy machinery or equipment (non-CDL).
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Familiarity with the Tampa Bay area.
