Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Burn Unit Nurse to join our specialized hospital wing at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey. This is a critical role offering crisis pay, designed for experienced Registered Nurses ready to provide advanced, life-saving care to patients suffering from burns of varying degrees. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and an unwavering commitment to patient advocacy in a high-acuity environment. You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on wound care, pain management, infection control, fluid resuscitation, and emotional support for both patients and their families. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for burn patients, including thermal, chemical, electrical, and radiation injuries.
  • Perform advanced wound care, dressing changes, and debridement, adhering to strict aseptic techniques.
  • Monitor vital signs, fluid balance, and electrolyte levels closely, initiating appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Administer medications, including analgesics and sedatives, and manage pain effectively using pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods.
  • Provide comprehensive education to patients and families regarding burn care, rehabilitation, and prevention.
  • Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers to develop holistic patient care plans.
  • Respond effectively to medical emergencies and rapidly changing patient conditions within the burn unit.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records and documentation.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards, particularly concerning infection control.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and specialized burn care training.

Required Skills

  • Current Florida RN license in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an acute care setting, preferably in critical care, emergency, or burn unit.
  • Demonstrated expertise in wound assessment, care, and management.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) or other relevant specialty certification.
  • Experience with ventilator management and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (if applicable to patient population).
  • Familiarity with ABA (American Burn Association) standards of care.
