Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Correctional Facility Pharmacy Tech to join our team in a secure setting in King’s Lynn. This challenging yet rewarding role involves providing comprehensive pharmacy support within a correctional facility, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical services to patients. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, possess excellent organizational skills, and be committed to maintaining high standards of care and security protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in dispensing medications accurately and safely for a diverse patient population within the correctional facility.
  • Manage and maintain pharmaceutical stock, including ordering, receiving, storing, and rotating supplies.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks to minimize waste and ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Prepare medication orders, including unit dose packaging and sterile compounding when required.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with all regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all security protocols and procedures within the correctional environment.
  • Assist with medication reconciliation and patient counseling under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Participate in audits and quality assurance activities to maintain high standards of pharmacy service.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, correctional staff, and patients.

Required Skills

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent)
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or eligibility for registration
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital or secure setting
  • Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations and dispensing procedures
  • Strong understanding of medication safety and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management software and basic computer applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a correctional or forensic mental health environment
  • Additional certifications in sterile compounding or medication therapy management
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems specific to secure environments
