Job Description

As a Court Bailiff / Security Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining order, security, and decorum within courtrooms and judicial premises in Shawinigan. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety of judges, court staff, legal professionals, and the public, as well as managing the movement of individuals within the courthouse. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain order and decorum in courtrooms during proceedings.
  • Ensure the security of judges, court personnel, and all individuals present in the courthouse.
  • Control access to courtrooms and restricted areas, verifying identification as required.
  • Escort individuals, including detainees, within the courthouse in a safe and secure manner.
  • Respond to emergency situations, provide first aid, and coordinate with emergency services as needed.
  • Operate security equipment such as metal detectors and surveillance systems.
  • Serve legal documents and execute court orders as directed.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and maintain accurate records of daily activities.
  • Enforce court rules and regulations, addressing disruptive behavior promptly and professionally.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • Valid Quebec Security Guard license (or ability to obtain one prior to employment).
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Excellent observation, communication, and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods, walk, and occasionally lift.
  • Proficiency in French (oral and written).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Criminology, Police Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience in a court or judicial environment.
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and court protocols.
  • Bilingualism (French and English).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
