Job Description
Lee & Hayes, PC is seeking a dedicated and proactive Court Runner / Legal Courier to join our Spokane office. This active role involves the timely and secure delivery of sensitive legal documents to various courthouses, client offices, and other legal entities within the Spokane area and occasionally beyond. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, reliable, possess excellent time management skills, and have a strong understanding of the importance of confidentiality and punctuality in legal operations. This position is crucial for ensuring the smooth flow of legal processes and supporting our attorneys and paralegals.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and promptly deliver legal documents, filings, and packages to courthouses, government agencies, client offices, and other designated locations.
- Pick up documents and mail from various locations as requested, ensuring proper handling and immediate return to the office.
- Maintain detailed logs of deliveries and pickups, including recipient names, times, and document descriptions.
- Assist with photocopying, scanning, and organizing documents as needed to prepare for delivery or filing.
- Perform routine errands for the firm, such as postal service runs, supply pickups, and other administrative support tasks.
- Communicate effectively with legal staff regarding delivery statuses, potential delays, and special instructions.
- Adhere strictly to all firm policies regarding confidentiality, security, and professional conduct.
- Ensure the firm vehicle (if provided) or personal vehicle used for deliveries is maintained in good working order and driven safely.
Required Skills
- Valid Washington State Driver's License and a clean driving record.
- Reliable transportation for daily deliveries (mileage reimbursed if personal vehicle is used).
- Proven ability to navigate the Spokane area efficiently and familiarity with local courthouses and legal institutions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and punctuality.
- Ability to lift and carry packages up to 25 pounds.
- High degree of professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a court runner, courier, or in a similar legal support role.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred.
