Job Description
As a Cruise Ship Nurse with Royal Caribbean International, you will provide comprehensive medical care to guests and crew members aboard our state-of-the-art cruise ships as we sail to exotic international destinations. This unique role offers the opportunity to practice nursing in a dynamic, global environment while enjoying the benefits of international travel, with room and board fully provided. You will work within a close-knit medical team, handling everything from routine consultations to emergency responses, ensuring the health and well-being of everyone on board. This position demands a high level of autonomy, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to all guests and crew members in accordance with established medical protocols and company policies.
- Respond effectively to medical emergencies, including cardiac arrests, traumas, and other critical incidents, performing immediate life support measures.
- Assist ship's doctors with medical procedures, examinations, and daily clinic operations.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the ship's medical officers.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and confidential medical records and documentation.
- Ensure proper inventory, storage, and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment.
- Participate in public health initiatives, infection control programs, and outbreak prevention efforts on board.
- Educate guests and crew on health and wellness topics, promoting a healthy lifestyle.
- Collaborate effectively with the medical team and other ship departments to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 2 years of post-registration clinical experience in an acute care setting (e.g., Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Urgent Care).
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal communication skills).
- Strong critical thinking, assessment, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a multidisciplinary medical team.
- Adaptability to a fast-paced, international, and confined environment for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous experience in a cruise ship medical setting or remote medicine.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Additional certifications such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
- Fluency in additional languages (e.g., Spanish, German, French, Mandarin).
