Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all dental instrument decontamination, sterilization, and disinfection processes in strict adherence to IPAC (Infection Prevention and Control) guidelines and best practices.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive technical training programs for all dental staff on proper sterilization techniques, equipment operation, and infection control protocols.
- Ensure continuous compliance with all relevant provincial (e.g., RCDSO, Ontario Health) and federal regulations.
- Perform regular maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of all decontamination and sterilization equipment, coordinating with external technicians as needed.
- Manage the inventory of sterilization supplies, instruments, and personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
- Conduct regular audits of decontamination procedures to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions proactively.
- Act as the primary resource and subject matter expert for all infection control and decontamination inquiries within the clinic.
- Document all training sessions, equipment maintenance, and sterilization cycles accurately and meticulously.
- Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement among the dental team.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in dental instrument decontamination, sterilization, and infection prevention and control practices.
- In-depth knowledge of current health and safety regulations relevant to dental settings in Ontario, Canada.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective technical training and mentorship to staff.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as a leader and collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Sterilization Sciences, Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR), or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of direct experience in a lead or supervisory role within a dental decontamination setting.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Proficiency with dental practice management software (e.g., Dentrix, Abeldent) for record-keeping.
