Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dialysis Unit Porter to join our team in Colchester. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and supplies within our busy dialysis unit. Your contribution will directly impact patient comfort and the operational flow of the unit, providing meaningful support to both patients and clinical staff. This role requires empathy, physical stamina, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Transporting patients safely and comfortably to and from treatment areas, wards, and other departments within the hospital.
- Assisting patients with mobility, using wheelchairs, beds, and other patient transport equipment.
- Moving and managing medical equipment, including dialysis machines, supplies, and sterile instruments, ensuring they are available where and when needed.
- Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in patient transport areas and ensuring equipment is regularly cleaned and ready for use.
- Responding promptly to requests from nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Adhering to strict health and safety guidelines, infection control policies, and patient confidentiality.
- Providing compassionate and respectful interaction with all patients and their families.
- Reporting any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the appropriate staff.
- Assisting with general unit tasks as directed by the nursing team to support a calm and efficient environment.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of patient and equipment transport.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Basic understanding of health and safety principles and infection control.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently when required.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Experience in a customer service role.
- First Aid certification.
- Manual handling training.
