Job Description
We are seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Special Education to lead our inclusive learning department. This pivotal role involves overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services for students across all age groups. The Director will ensure compliance with national and international educational standards, foster a collaborative environment with faculty, parents, and external specialists, and champion best practices in differentiated instruction and student support. This position requires a strong advocate for student success and a leader committed to cultivating an environment where every student thrives. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Special Education department, including program development, curriculum adaptation, and service delivery.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate special education teachers and support staff, fostering a culture of continuous professional growth.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant German and international special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and external specialists to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support strategies.
- Conduct and oversee comprehensive student assessments to identify learning needs and monitor progress.
- Manage the department's budget, resources, and facilities effectively.
- Serve as a key resource and advocate for students with special needs and their families.
- Develop and deliver professional development for faculty on inclusive practices, differentiation, and special education methodologies.
- Actively participate in the school's leadership team to promote a whole-school approach to inclusion.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field.
- Valid teaching and/or administrative certification in Special Education (or equivalent international qualification).
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in special education, with at least 3 years in a leadership or administrative capacity.
- In-depth knowledge of special education methodologies, assessment tools, and intervention strategies for diverse learning needs.
- Familiarity with international school environments and educational frameworks (e.g., IB, AP).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with all stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, resources, and teams effectively.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Proficiency in German or another European language.
- Experience with securing grants or external funding for special education programs.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and multicultural families.
