Job Description
As an Entry Level Reliability Engineer with a maintenance focus at our Bakersfield refinery, you will be instrumental in ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of critical refinery equipment. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply engineering principles in a hands-on operational environment, contributing directly to safety, efficiency, and operational excellence. You will work closely with experienced engineers, maintenance teams, and operations personnel to identify, analyze, and resolve equipment reliability issues, learn best practices in predictive and preventative maintenance, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This position is designed for individuals eager to start a career in the demanding yet rewarding refinery sector, focusing on the practical application of reliability engineering within a maintenance context.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of equipment reliability strategies for refinery assets.
- Support the maintenance team by analyzing equipment failures, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
- Participate in the planning and execution of preventative and predictive maintenance programs (e.g., vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography).
- Collect and analyze equipment performance data to identify trends and potential issues.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance personnel to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime.
- Contribute to the development of maintenance procedures and best practices.
- Learn and apply reliability tools and methodologies such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance).
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in all maintenance and reliability activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, industrial environment.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a refinery setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or co-op experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, particularly in oil & gas or petrochemicals.
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP PM or Maximo.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering principles (e.g., RCM, FMEA).
- Understanding of various types of rotating and fixed equipment.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
