Job Description
As a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Technician at our bustling airport location in Irvine, you will be pivotal in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our aircraft and cargo handling. You will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a diverse fleet of GSE, including tugs, forklifts, belt loaders, pushback tractors, and other specialized equipment essential to airport operations. This role demands a high level of technical proficiency, adherence to safety standards, and a proactive approach to prevent downtime. You will work in a fast-paced environment, contributing directly to FedEx Express’s commitment to reliability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on all types of ground support equipment, including diesel, gas, electric, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems of GSE.
- Conduct routine inspections and perform service on equipment to ensure compliance with company, federal, and local regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
- Order and manage parts inventory necessary for repairs and maintenance.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, HAZMAT, and OSHA standards.
- Operate GSE for testing purposes and movement around the airport facility.
- Collaborate with operations teams to minimize equipment downtime and support flight schedules.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a GSE Mechanic or similar role.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and diagnostics.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE certification (e.g., Medium/Heavy Truck, Diesel Engines).
- Experience with airport ramp operations and associated safety procedures.
- Certifications in specific heavy equipment maintenance.
- Associate's degree or vocational training in Diesel Mechanics or Automotive Technology.
- Familiarity with battery-powered electric vehicle systems.
