Job Description

Join our dynamic team as a Field Paleo Worker, where you will play a crucial role in archaeological and paleontological resource management projects across various sites. This position involves intensive fieldwork, requiring physical stamina and a keen eye for detail in identifying, documenting, and collecting fossil remains. You will work under the supervision of paleontologists and project managers, contributing to important scientific discoveries and environmental compliance efforts. Daily per diem and housing will be provided during project deployments, making this an excellent opportunity for dedicated individuals looking to gain significant field experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct systematic pedestrian surveys to identify paleontological resources.
  • Excavate and recover fossil specimens using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Document findings accurately, including site mapping, photography, and detailed field notes.
  • Assist with the preparation and packaging of specimens for transport to laboratories.
  • Operate field equipment safely and effectively.
  • Adhere strictly to all project protocols, safety guidelines, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and project supervisors.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in all field and community interactions.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity in varying weather conditions and difficult terrain.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Basic knowledge of geology, paleontology, or archaeology principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods to remote field sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Paleontology, Geology, Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field.
  • Previous experience in paleontological or archaeological field methods and data collection.
  • Experience with GPS units and other mapping tools.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
