Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Firmware / Embedded Systems Engineer to join our innovative R&D team in Southport. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge consumer products, working on the core embedded software that brings our hardware to life. You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and testing firmware for new products, ensuring robust performance, seamless user experience, and efficient interaction with complex mechanical and electrical systems. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test embedded firmware for new and existing Dyson products, primarily in C/C++.
- Work closely with hardware engineers to define specifications, debug issues, and ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
- Develop and implement real-time operating system (RTOS) based solutions for microcontroller platforms.
- Perform code reviews, unit testing, and system-level debugging to ensure high-quality and reliable firmware.
- Contribute to the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept through to manufacturing support.
- Analyze and optimize firmware for performance, memory usage, and power consumption.
- Document software designs, specifications, and test plans.
- Participate in agile development processes and adapt to evolving project requirements.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems development.
- Experience with various microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-M series).
- Solid understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS) concepts and practical application.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi.
- Experience with debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, SWD) and laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with low-power design and battery-operated devices.
- Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) techniques.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Experience with automated testing frameworks for embedded systems.
- Understanding of sensor integration and data acquisition.
- Previous experience in consumer electronics or high-volume manufacturing environments.
