Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Forensic Toxicologist (Chemist) with a strong focus on adliye (legal) support to join our Milwaukee team. The successful candidate will perform advanced chemical analyses on biological specimens and other evidence to detect and quantify drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to strict laboratory protocols, and the ability to interpret complex analytical data for legal proceedings. A significant aspect of this position involves providing expert witness testimony in court, preparing detailed scientific reports, and consulting with legal professionals and law enforcement. This position plays a critical role in supporting criminal investigations and ensuring justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive qualitative and quantitative analyses of biological samples (e.g., blood, urine, tissues) for the presence of drugs, alcohol, and other toxicologically significant compounds.
- Utilize advanced analytical instrumentation, including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, and immunoassays.
- Interpret complex analytical data, evaluate results, and determine the toxicological significance of findings.
- Prepare clear, concise, and scientifically sound laboratory reports suitable for use in legal proceedings.
- Provide expert witness testimony in various courts (local, state, federal) regarding analytical methods, results, and the interpretation of forensic toxicology findings.
- Consult with law enforcement personnel, attorneys, and other legal professionals on forensic toxicology matters.
- Maintain detailed chain of custody records for all evidence and samples.
- Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods and procedures in accordance with accreditation standards.
- Participate in quality assurance programs, internal audits, and proficiency testing.
- Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety regulations and accreditation requirements (e.g., ISO 17025, ASCLD/LAB).
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Forensic Toxicology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 4 years of practical experience in a forensic toxicology laboratory, including extensive experience with GC-MS and LC-MS/MS.
- Proven ability to interpret complex analytical data and write comprehensive scientific reports.
- Strong understanding of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in presenting scientific findings in a legal context.
- Ability to provide credible and effective expert witness testimony.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Knowledge of quality assurance/quality control procedures and laboratory accreditation standards.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Board certification by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT).
- Experience with high-throughput screening methods.
- Prior experience working within a government crime laboratory system.
- Experience in method development and validation.
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior staff.
