Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Garden Centre Hand to join our team in Leicester. This role is perfect for individuals who love plants, enjoy interacting with customers, and are eager to share their expertise. You will be responsible for maintaining our vibrant plant displays, providing expert advice to customers, and ensuring the smooth operation of our garden centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with plant selection, offering knowledgeable advice on care, planting, and common garden issues.
  • Maintain the health and pristine appearance of all plant stock through regular watering, feeding, pruning, and pest management.
  • Create appealing and organized plant displays, ensuring accurate pricing and informative signage.
  • Restock shelves and ensure the garden centre remains clean, tidy, and welcoming for all visitors.
  • Operate the till system, processing customer transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with the unloading and merchandising of new plant and product deliveries.
  • Provide general support to the garden centre team, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable passion for plants and horticulture, with good knowledge of various plant types, their care requirements, and common issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine desire to help customers.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Physical capability to handle heavy items, stand for long periods, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a garden centre, nursery, or similar retail environment.
  • A horticultural qualification or relevant training/certifications.
  • Experience operating a point-of-sale (POS) system.
