Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Government Office Aide to join our team in Fort Wayne. This crucial role focuses on assisting individuals and families with accessing and understanding various state benefits. You will play a vital part in guiding applicants through the bureaucratic process, ensuring all documentation is accurate, and providing empathetic support. This position is perfect for someone with strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for public service and community support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in completing applications for state benefit programs, including but not limited to Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, and housing assistance.
  • Verify and organize required documentation, ensuring all submissions are complete and accurate.
  • Liaise with state government agencies to track application statuses and resolve discrepancies.
  • Provide clear, concise, and compassionate explanations of benefit eligibility criteria and application processes to clients.
  • Maintain confidential client records with the utmost discretion and adherence to privacy regulations.
  • Schedule appointments, manage client intake, and handle general office administrative tasks.
  • Stay updated on changes to state and federal benefit policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other team members to provide holistic support services to clients.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work compassionately and effectively with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish)
  • Previous experience in an office environment or customer service role
  • Familiarity with state benefits programs in Indiana
