Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Green Chemistry Scientist with a strong focus on sustainability to join our R&D team in Tempe, AZ. This is a high-demand role for an individual passionate about developing environmentally benign chemical processes and products. You will play a crucial role in designing, synthesizing, and optimizing chemical reactions to reduce hazardous substances, minimize waste, and improve resource efficiency across various product lines. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments for the development of novel green chemical processes and sustainable materials.
  • Conduct research to identify and implement safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly alternatives to existing chemical methodologies.
  • Utilize principles of green chemistry to minimize waste, reduce energy consumption, and eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.
  • Perform analytical characterization of synthesized compounds and materials using techniques such as NMR, GC-MS, HPLC, and IR.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including process engineers, material scientists, and product developers to integrate green chemistry solutions into commercial products.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, prepare technical reports, and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current with advancements in green chemistry, sustainable technologies, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and company policies in a laboratory environment.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on Green Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Catalysis.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial or post-doctoral research experience in green chemistry principles and applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, or material science with an emphasis on sustainable practices.
  • Proficiency in various analytical techniques for compound characterization (e.g., NMR, GC-MS, HPLC, IR, UV-Vis).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with lifecycle assessment (LCA) or other sustainability metrics.
  • Knowledge of catalysis (homogeneous, heterogeneous, biocatalysis) for sustainable transformations.
  • Familiarity with process intensification techniques and solvent selection guidelines.
  • Track record of publications, patents, or successful product development in green chemistry.
  • Experience with scale-up of chemical processes from lab to pilot plant.
