Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Hazmat/Tanker Specialist to join our dedicated team in Virginia Beach, VA. This critical role involves the safe and efficient transportation of hazardous materials and bulk liquids in tanker trucks. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of DOT regulations, hazmat procedures, and a proven track record of safe driving and handling practices. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations while delivering essential chemicals to our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate tanker trucks for the transportation of hazardous materials and bulk chemicals.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring all equipment is in excellent working order.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, safety protocols, and company policies.
- Properly load and unload hazardous materials, ensuring secure containment and preventing spills.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery manifests, and other required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding delivery schedules and potential issues.
- Respond promptly and safely to any spills, incidents, or emergencies according to established protocols.
- Complete all necessary hazmat training and maintain required certifications and endorsements.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues to the maintenance department.
Required Skills
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable commercial driving experience, with at least 1 year in tanker operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to hazardous materials transportation.
- Clean driving record (MVR) with no serious violations.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience transporting a variety of chemical classes.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management systems.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
