Job Description
Are you a student passionate about a career in healthcare, seeking hands-on clinical experience? Huntington Health offers a unique paid internship opportunity for aspiring Home Health Aides (HHAs). This program provides comprehensive training and supervised practical experience in direct patient care within a supportive clinical environment. You will gain invaluable skills, work alongside experienced healthcare professionals, and contribute directly to patient well-being, setting a strong foundation for your future career in healthcare. This internship is designed to give you a real-world understanding of the responsibilities and rewards of an HHA role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
- Monitor and record vital signs, reporting any significant changes to supervising nurses.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment for patients.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks related to patient care areas.
- Accurately document observations and care provided in patient records.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a healthcare-related educational program (e.g., nursing, medical assistant, CNA program).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under supervision.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a compassionate attitude towards patients.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and patient privacy (HIPAA).
- Reliability and strong work ethic.
- Ability to perform physical tasks required for patient care (e.g., lifting, transferring).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proficiency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin).
