Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Hospital Equipment Porter to join our Technical Asset Management team in Southwark. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement, tracking, and basic maintenance checks of medical equipment throughout our hospital facilities. This position is crucial to ensuring that our clinical teams have access to the equipment they need, when they need it, directly supporting patient care. You will play a key part in the operational efficiency of our technical assets, contributing to a high standard of patient safety and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport medical equipment, including but not limited to beds, wheelchairs, monitors, and specialized machinery, between departments, wards, and storage areas.
- Perform basic visual inspections of equipment for damage or malfunction and report any issues promptly to the Technical Asset Management team.
- Assist with the delivery and collection of new or repaired equipment, ensuring proper handling and documentation.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of equipment movement and location using digital tracking systems.
- Support the technical team in managing equipment inventory, including stock checks and audits.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and prepared for use as per established protocols, supporting infection control standards.
- Respond to urgent requests for equipment movement, prioritizing tasks to meet operational demands.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, manual handling guidelines, and trust policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff at all levels.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for tracking and documentation.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic IT literacy for using electronic tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a porter or logistics role, ideally within a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical equipment handling procedures.
- A good understanding of health and safety practices.
- Experience with inventory management or asset tracking systems.
