Job Description
Join Valero Energy Corporation as an Entry Level Fire Watch and become a crucial part of our safety team in Tulsa, OK. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about safety and looking to start a rewarding career in the petrochemical industry. As a Fire Watch, you will be responsible for monitoring work areas for potential fire hazards, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and responding to emergency situations. This role offers comprehensive training and an opportunity to develop essential safety skills within a world-class refinery environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor designated work areas for the presence of fire hazards and combustible materials.
- Maintain a vigilant watch during hot work operations (welding, cutting, grinding).
- Ensure immediate access to fire suppression equipment (extinguishers, hoses).
- Identify and report any unsafe conditions or practices to the immediate supervisor.
- Initiate emergency response procedures in the event of a fire or other incident.
- Maintain clear communication with workers and emergency personnel.
- Complete required documentation and safety permits accurately.
Required Skills
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to protocols.
- Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods.
- Excellent observational skills.
- Basic communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and navigate refinery environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior experience in an industrial or construction setting (even non-safety related).
- Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
- Understanding of Lockout/Tagout procedures.
