Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Instrument Repair Specialist with a strong focus on woodwind and brass instruments to join our team in New Port Richey, FL. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of instrument mechanics, a meticulous eye for detail, and a passion for restoring instruments to their optimal playing condition. This role involves diagnosing issues, performing a wide range of repairs, and ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship. You will work directly with customers, providing expert advice and maintaining our reputation for excellent service.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and assess damage or malfunction in woodwind and brass instruments.
- Perform comprehensive repairs including pad replacement, key fitting, dent removal, valve lapping, slide adjustments, and soldering.
- Tune, regulate, and adjust instruments to ensure optimal playability and intonation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe repair workshop environment.
- Order and manage inventory of repair parts and supplies.
- Provide accurate repair estimates and timelines to customers.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding repair status and technical information.
- Collaborate with sales and rental departments to support instrument maintenance needs.
- Continuously learn new repair techniques and stay updated on instrument technologies.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in woodwind and brass instrument repair.
- Proficient in soldering, dent removal, and keywork adjustment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision craftsmanship.
- Thorough knowledge of instrument construction and materials for woodwind and brass families.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized instrument repair certification program or equivalent apprenticeship.
- Personal experience playing woodwind or brass instruments.
- Familiarity with various instrument brands and historical repair methods.
