Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate International Student Advisor to join our Student Services team. In this pivotal role, you will provide comprehensive support and guidance to international students throughout their academic journey, with a particular focus on relocation assistance. You will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition for students arriving in Brisbane, offering expert advice on visa requirements, accommodation, cultural adaptation, and academic integration. This role requires a deep understanding of international student needs, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice and support to international students on pre-arrival, arrival, and post-arrival matters, including visa conditions, enrolment, and orientation.
- Assist students with relocation logistics, including temporary and long-term accommodation options, public transport, and local services.
- Guide students through cultural adjustment, academic expectations, and integration into the Australian lifestyle.
- Develop and deliver workshops and information sessions on topics relevant to international students, such as living costs, health services, and employment regulations.
- Act as a primary point of contact for student enquiries, providing accurate and timely information and referrals to appropriate university services or external agencies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Australian immigration policies, education regulations, and best practices in international student support.
- Collaborate with internal university departments (e.g., admissions, faculties, welfare services) to ensure a holistic support system for international students.
- Assist in the development and implementation of initiatives to enhance the international student experience and foster a welcoming campus environment.
- Handle sensitive student issues with empathy, professionalism, and discretion, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to university policies.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in international student support, advisory, or related roles within a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Australian international student visa regulations and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Proven ability to provide empathetic and practical advice to students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex caseloads.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and student management systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in a second language (e.g., Mandarin, Hindi, Vietnamese).
- Experience living or working internationally.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Experience with student crisis management and mental health first aid.
