Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Laboratory Director to lead our state-of-the-art clinical laboratory in Tempe, AZ. This critical leadership role involves overseeing all operational, administrative, and strategic aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance, and patient safety. The Director will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement, fostering a collaborative team environment, and implementing cutting-edge diagnostic technologies to support exceptional patient outcomes within a high-volume healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all laboratory services, ensuring efficient and effective daily operations.
  • Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory standards (CAP, CLIA, CMS, state regulations).
  • Manage laboratory budget, resource allocation, and financial performance.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and accountability.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control programs, including proficiency testing and corrective action plans.
  • Lead the selection, evaluation, and implementation of new laboratory equipment and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, and hospital administration to integrate laboratory services with overall patient care strategies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of laboratory results.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.

Required Skills

  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D., MD, DO) in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
  • ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance (CAP, CLIA, state regulations).
  • Strong financial management and budgetary control skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and other relevant software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certification in Clinical Pathology (for MD/DO) or a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., DABCC, ABMM, ABMG).
  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Healthcare Administration (MHA).
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Track record of successful implementation of new technologies and services.
