Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Media Interview Typist with a strong focus on journalism to join our remote team. This role is critical in supporting our newsgathering process by accurately transcribing interviews, press conferences, and other audio recordings of journalistic significance. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional typing speed and accuracy, a keen ear for detail, and an understanding of journalistic ethics and deadlines. This is a fully remote position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to one of the world’s leading news organizations from your home office.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately transcribe audio and video recordings of interviews, press conferences, and field reports with a focus on journalistic content.
- Ensure transcriptions are grammatically correct, properly punctuated, and capture all spoken words and nuances.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information contained in recordings.
- Meet tight deadlines for transcription delivery, often under fast-paced news cycles.
- Identify and flag unclear audio segments or potential misinterpretations for review.
- Collaborate with journalists and editors to clarify specific terms or content as needed.
- Utilize transcription software and tools effectively to enhance productivity and accuracy.
Required Skills
- Minimum typing speed of 80 WPM with high accuracy (98%+).
- Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Strong listening skills and ability to discern speech in varying audio qualities.
- Proficiency with transcription software and word processing applications.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Basic understanding of journalistic principles and terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in media transcription, legal transcription, or medical transcription.
- Familiarity with various accents and dialects.
- Background or interest in journalism, current events, or media studies.
- Experience with specialized transcription tools or AI-assisted transcription platforms.
