Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Orthopedic Staff Nurse with a specialized focus on Sports Medicine to join our dynamic team at Genesis Health System in Davenport, Iowa. This pivotal role involves providing exceptional nursing care to patients undergoing orthopedic procedures, recovering from sports-related injuries, and managing chronic musculoskeletal conditions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background in orthopedics, a passion for sports medicine, and a commitment to delivering top-quality patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment. You will work collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and holistic patient care, from pre-operative education through post-operative rehabilitation. This is an on-site position critical to our patient care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for orthopedic and sports medicine patients.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
- Monitor patient vital signs, pain levels, and recovery progress, documenting all observations accurately.
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, rehabilitation exercises, injury prevention, and medication management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists to develop and adjust individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records and documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Assist with patient mobility and activities of daily living, ensuring comfort and dignity.
- Respond to emergency situations and provide immediate intervention as needed, following established protocols.
- Ensure a safe, sterile, and therapeutic environment for all patients.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives within the orthopedic and sports medicine unit to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an orthopedic or surgical nursing setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of orthopedic conditions, treatments, and post-operative care principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Orthopedic Nurse Certified (ONC) or Certified Sports Medicine Nurse (CSMN) certification.
- Experience with sports injury rehabilitation and athletic patient populations.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
