Job Description
The Canadian Press is seeking a meticulous and dedicated Online Fact Checker to join our journalism team, focusing specifically on political and news content. In an era of rampant misinformation, your role will be crucial in verifying the accuracy of information circulating online, within political discourse, and in breaking news narratives. You will be responsible for rigorously researching claims, cross-referencing sources, and producing clear, concise reports on your findings. This position requires an unwavering commitment to truth, exceptional critical thinking skills, and a deep understanding of journalistic ethics.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research to verify the accuracy of political statements, news reports, and online content.
- Evaluate sources for credibility, bias, and authority.
- Cross-reference information using a variety of reliable databases, academic journals, government reports, and primary sources.
- Identify and flag misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda.
- Write clear, concise, and evidence-based fact-checking reports and articles for internal and external publication.
- Collaborate with journalists, editors, and researchers to ensure the highest standards of accuracy in all published content.
- Stay abreast of current events, political developments, and emerging trends in misinformation.
- Adhere strictly to journalistic ethical guidelines and best practices in fact-checking.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in research, journalism, or a related field with a strong focus on fact-checking.
- Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Superior attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies or inaccuracies.

Preferred Qualifications
