Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Online Transcriptionist to support our academic research teams. This remote position involves accurately transcribing audio and video recordings of interviews, lectures, focus groups, and other research-related content. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional listening skills, a strong command of the English language, and the ability to work independently to meet tight deadlines while maintaining confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately transcribe audio and video recordings of academic interviews, lectures, seminars, and other research data.
- Ensure high levels of accuracy, grammar, spelling, and punctuation in all transcribed documents.
- Identify and tag speakers in multi-speaker recordings.
- Meet specified deadlines and turnaround times for transcription projects.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all research materials and sensitive information.
- Communicate effectively with researchers and project managers regarding transcription progress and any ambiguities.
- Utilize transcription software and tools efficiently.
Required Skills
- Exceptional listening skills and attention to detail.
- Superior written English communication, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Proficiency in typing with a minimum speed of 60 WPM (words per minute).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong understanding of academic terminology (preferred, but not strictly required).
- Familiarity with transcription software (e.g., Express Scribe, oTranscribe) or willingness to learn quickly.
- Reliable internet access and a quiet workspace.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in academic transcription or legal/medical transcription.
- A post-secondary degree or diploma, especially in a research-intensive field.
- Experience with various audio and video file formats.
- Familiarity with APA, MLA, or Chicago style guidelines for citations.
