Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Paleontology Support professional to join our Environmental Services team in Gilbert, AZ. This is a 100% direct hire position, offering stability and growth within a leading global firm. The successful candidate will provide essential support to our paleontologists and project managers, contributing to paleontological resource management projects across various stages. This role involves both field and laboratory work, requiring attention to detail, organizational skills, and a strong commitment to scientific accuracy. You will be instrumental in ensuring the proper documentation, recovery, and preparation of fossil specimens, playing a vital part in our projects that inform environmental assessments and cultural resource management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist paleontologists in the field with fossil recovery, documentation, and collection during surveys and excavations.
  • Prepare fossil specimens in the laboratory, including cleaning, repair, and stabilization.
  • Maintain detailed records of fossil discoveries, including stratigraphic data, photographic documentation, and GPS coordinates.
  • Organize and manage fossil collections, ensuring proper storage and cataloging according to established protocols.
  • Operate and maintain field and laboratory equipment, ensuring readiness and functionality for project tasks.
  • Conduct preliminary identification of fossil materials under supervision.
  • Support report generation by compiling data, preparing maps, and assisting with technical writing.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies during field and laboratory operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including archaeologists, botanists, and environmental planners.

Required Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of geology and paleontology principles.
  • Proficiency in data entry and basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in various outdoor conditions (e.g., walking uneven terrain, lifting up to 50 lbs).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites as required.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Anthropology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (internship or paid) in paleontological fieldwork or laboratory settings.
  • Experience with GIS software for mapping and data management.
  • Familiarity with various fossil preparation techniques and tools.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
