Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Part-time Care Home Cook to join our culinary team in Cambridge, MA. This role is crucial in providing residents with wholesome, delicious, and nutritionally balanced meals. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing a variety of dishes, adhering to strict dietary guidelines and food safety standards. This position primarily involves weekend daytime hours, offering a stable schedule within a supportive care environment. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of nutritious and appetizing meals for residents, following standardized recipes and menus.
- Strictly adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations (HACCP principles).
- Accommodate special dietary needs and restrictions as instructed by the dietary manager or nursing staff.
- Monitor food temperatures and ensure proper storage of ingredients and prepared dishes.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
- Assist with inventory management, stock rotation, and receiving deliveries.
- Collaborate effectively with kitchen staff and other department teams to ensure smooth service operations.
- Ensure timely preparation and delivery of meals according to service schedules.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to cook for a group, preferably in an institutional or care setting.
- Strong understanding of basic food safety and hygiene principles.
- Ability to follow recipes and dietary instructions accurately.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic communication skills to interact with staff and residents.
- Ability to lift moderate weight (up to 25 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Culinary arts certificate or relevant vocational training.
- Previous experience as a cook in a care home, hospital, or similar institutional kitchen.
- Knowledge of various dietary restrictions (e.g., diabetic, low sodium, pureed).
- ServSafe certification or equivalent food handler's permit.
