Job Description

Glendale Community College Library is seeking enthusiastic and detail-oriented individuals for a Part-time Library Aide position. This role is ideal for college students looking to gain valuable experience in a library setting while balancing their academic commitments. You will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the library, ensuring a welcoming and organized environment for our patrons.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist library patrons with locating materials and basic inquiries.
  • Shelve and organize books, periodicals, and other library materials accurately.
  • Maintain neatness and orderliness of library shelves and study areas.
  • Process new materials, including labeling and covering books.
  • Assist with interlibrary loan requests and document delivery.
  • Perform basic clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data entry.
  • Support special projects and events as assigned by library staff.
  • Open and close the library or specific sections as required, following established procedures.

Required Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, push book carts, and stand/walk for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a college or university program.
  • Previous experience in a library, customer service, or office environment.
  • Familiarity with library classification systems (e.g., Library of Congress, Dewey Decimal).
  • A genuine interest in promoting literacy and learning.
