Job Description
Are you a creative enthusiast with a flair for design and a passion for bringing celebrations to life? Ottawa Special Events is seeking a Junior Creative Role Party & Event Decorator to join our dynamic team. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to learn the ropes of event decoration, from conceptualization to flawless execution. You’ll work closely with senior decorators and event planners, gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of event design, prop creation, setup, and teardown. If you have a keen eye for aesthetics, a can-do attitude, and thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior decorators in developing creative concepts and design plans for various events.
- Source, prepare, and organize decorative elements, including florals, lighting, linens, and props.
- Participate in the setup and teardown of event decor at various venues across Ottawa and surrounding areas.
- Contribute to the creation of custom decor items and props in our workshop.
- Maintain inventory of decorative supplies and ensure all items are in excellent condition.
- Collaborate with the event planning team to ensure decor aligns with overall event themes and client expectations.
- Adhere to timelines and budgets for decor projects.
- Ensure all decor elements are safely and securely installed.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of design principles and color theory.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and move decor items (up to 25 lbs).
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation (asset for travel to event sites).
- Enthusiasm for learning and a positive, 'can-do' attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in event planning, visual merchandising, or a related creative field (even volunteer experience).
- Familiarity with various decor styles and trends.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools and crafting techniques.
- A portfolio showcasing creative projects or design work (can include personal projects).
