Job Description

Jacobs Engineering Group is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer to join our dynamic team in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and specify plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary waste, storm drainage, and specialized process piping.
  • Design and specify fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire pumps, and fire alarm interfaces.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for water flow, pressure loss, and sprinkler system design.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Ensure designs comply with local, state, and national building codes, fire codes (e.g., NFPA), and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, other engineering disciplines, and project managers to integrate plumbing and fire protection systems into overall building designs.
  • Conduct site visits during design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFI's during construction.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers as needed.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in plumbing and fire protection system design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant engineering software.
  • Strong understanding of building codes (IBC, IPC, IMC) and fire codes (NFPA 13, 14, 20, 24).
  • Ability to perform complex hydraulic calculations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification.
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or similar certification.
  • Experience with sustainable design principles (e.g., LEED).
  • Experience working on federal, municipal, or large-scale commercial projects.
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
