Job Description
Jacobs Engineering Group is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer to join our dynamic team in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Key Responsibilities
- Design and specify plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary waste, storm drainage, and specialized process piping.
- Design and specify fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire pumps, and fire alarm interfaces.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for water flow, pressure loss, and sprinkler system design.
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Ensure designs comply with local, state, and national building codes, fire codes (e.g., NFPA), and industry standards.
- Collaborate with architects, other engineering disciplines, and project managers to integrate plumbing and fire protection systems into overall building designs.
- Conduct site visits during design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFI's during construction.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers as needed.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in plumbing and fire protection system design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant engineering software.
- Strong understanding of building codes (IBC, IPC, IMC) and fire codes (NFPA 13, 14, 20, 24).
- Ability to perform complex hydraulic calculations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification.
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or similar certification.
- Experience with sustainable design principles (e.g., LEED).
- Experience working on federal, municipal, or large-scale commercial projects.
- Master's degree in Engineering.
