Job Description

Southern California Edison is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Policy Intern to join our team for a paid summer internship in 2024. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public policy, regulatory affairs, and stakeholder engagement within the dynamic energy sector. The successful candidate will support our policy team in researching critical energy issues, analyzing proposed legislation and regulations, and preparing materials for internal and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on energy policy, regulatory developments, and industry trends.
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, memos, presentations, and other communication materials.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory activities at the state and federal levels.
  • Support the preparation of materials for meetings with internal teams, policymakers, and industry partners.
  • Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and strategic planning discussions.
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned by the policy team.
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather information and insights for policy development.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Environmental Studies, Law, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated interest in energy policy, environmental issues, or public affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or work experience in policy research, government, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with California's legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Basic understanding of the utility industry or energy markets.
  • Experience with data analysis or statistical software.
