Job Description

Honeywell is seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Principal Research Scientist to join our advanced research team in Gary, Indiana. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and define high-level strategic research programs from conception to completion, identifying emerging technologies and market trends.
  • Conduct advanced research in relevant scientific and engineering domains, publishing findings in top-tier journals and presenting at international conferences.
  • Develop comprehensive strategic roadmaps and technology forecasts to guide long-term product development and business investment decisions.
  • Provide expert technical and strategic consultation to executive leadership, business units, and external partners.
  • Mentor junior scientists and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, scientific rigor, and strategic thinking within the research organization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product development, and business teams to ensure research aligns with organizational goals and market needs.
  • Secure external funding, manage intellectual property, and contribute to the company's patent portfolio.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the competitive landscape and global scientific advancements.

Required Skills

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 10 years (120 months) of post-doctoral or equivalent industrial research experience, with a proven track record of significant scientific contributions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic research initiatives and translate complex scientific concepts into actionable business strategies.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information to diverse audiences, including senior executives.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship capabilities.
  • Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis, and advanced simulation techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A portfolio of patents, peer-reviewed publications, and invited talks at leading scientific conferences.
  • Experience in managing research projects with significant budgets and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in areas such as Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Quantum Computing, Advanced Materials, Sustainable Technologies, or Cyber-Physical Systems.
  • Experience collaborating with university research groups or government agencies.
  • Understanding of intellectual property creation and protection processes.
