Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Nurse (K-12) to join our team in Monongalia County Schools. This full-time, on-site position offers the invaluable benefit of summer and winter breaks off, aligning with the school calendar, and includes participation in the West Virginia State Pension system. As a vital member of our school community, you will be responsible for promoting the health and well-being of our students, managing health services, and providing first aid and emergency care. The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse with a passion for pediatric health and a commitment to fostering a safe and healthy learning environment for all K-12 students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide skilled nursing care, first aid, and emergency treatment for illness and injuries to students and staff.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with school policy and physician orders.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized health care plans (IHPs) for students with chronic health conditions.
- Conduct health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and make appropriate referrals.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and healthcare providers to ensure student health needs are met.
- Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, including disease prevention and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Assist with the management and control of communicable diseases within the school setting.
- Participate in IEP/504 plan meetings as needed to address health-related accommodations.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health regulations and school district policies.
Required Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
- CPR/AED certification
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate medical records and documentation
- Knowledge of pediatric health and developmental stages
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Previous experience in a school health setting or pediatric nursing
- Certification as a National Certified School Nurse (NCSN)
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish)
