Job Description
Are you looking for an opportunity to work outdoors and contribute to British Columbia’s thriving agricultural industry? BC Tree Fruits Cooperative is seeking enthusiastic and hardworking Seasonal Fruit Pickers to join our teams across the picturesque Okanagan Valley. This is a temporary, full-time position focused on harvesting various fruits during their peak season. You will be an integral part of ensuring our premium fruits are carefully picked and prepared for distribution. While the administrative location for this posting is Burnaby, the actual work will be conducted on orchards throughout the Okanagan Valley. Accommodation and transportation to the orchards are the responsibility of the applicant, but local resources and support will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Carefully pick a variety of fruits, including but not limited to apples, cherries, peaches, and pears, according to quality standards and ripeness.
- Follow supervisors' instructions regarding picking techniques, quota, and specific orchard requirements.
- Handle fruit gently to prevent bruising and damage.
- Place picked fruit into bins or containers with care.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and farm guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area within the orchard.
- Work efficiently and productively in a team environment or individually.
- Report any issues with fruit quality, equipment, or safety concerns to a supervisor immediately.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, sun, light rain).
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in fruit picking, farming, or other agricultural labor.
- Familiarity with different fruit varieties and harvesting techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
